A useful CSCA Mathematics plan begins with the current official syllabus and ends with a review of what practice results show. Completing many questions is not enough if the same concepts remain unclear. Break preparation into manageable topics, learn the methods, practise accuracy and then work on speed.
Step 1: Get the official syllabus
Before starting a timetable, obtain the latest Mathematics syllabus from the official CSCA website. Use it as your checklist and note the source document's version or date. Third-party topic lists and practice papers can help, but should not replace official material if the scope changes.
Step 2: Study by topic before mixing questions
Start with topics you find difficult. Review the concept and worked examples, then solve a small set without checking answers after every question. Record why each mistake happened: missing concept, incorrect algebra, misreading, weak time management or an avoidable calculation error. This turns practice into a repeatable process.
Step 3: Practise under timed conditions
Timed mock tests help you practise pacing, focus and question navigation. GL Education has a released Mathematics practice test in its CSCA Mock Test area; check the page for current availability and instructions. The released practice format shown on the site uses 48 questions, a 60-minute timer and a score out of 100 marks. Official exam requirements must still be checked against current official materials.
Step 4: Review your result, not only the score
- List the syllabus topics linked to incorrect answers.
- Review correct answers where you guessed or took too long.
- Redo selected questions later without looking at the solution.
- Track whether the same error type appears across sessions.
- Choose the next study topic from evidence, not habit.
A simple weekly preparation routine
| Session | Focus | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Session 1 | Review a syllabus topic | Definitions, methods and examples |
| Session 2 | Solve topic-based questions | Errors and questions to revisit |
| Session 3 | Practise a mixed set | Accuracy and time spent |
| Session 4 | Attempt a timed mock when available | Score, pace and weak topics |
| Session 5 | Review mistakes and retest | What improved and what needs more work |
Are free CSCA Mathematics mock tests official?
No. GL Education's Mathematics test is an independent practice paper designed to help students prepare. It is not an official CSCA paper, released past paper or official score report. Use official CSCA channels for registration, dates and official materials, and use practice tests to guide revision.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Starting practice without checking the syllabus that applies to your intended programme.
- Using unofficial question sets as the only study source.
- Treating one practice score as a guaranteed predictor of admission or scholarship outcomes.
- Ignoring explanations for questions answered correctly by guessing.
- Spending all study time on familiar topics instead of addressing weak areas.
Tip
Keep an error log. For each missed question, record the topic, why your answer was wrong, the correct method and when you will try it again.
